Reflective Essay

First of all, what is BLOG? Blog is usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. This is where we can express and share our thoughts.

Making this blog is not easy. I’m getting tired of encoding all my outputs and to beautify my blog. But, as time goes by, I’m slowly appreciated making this blog. I found it enjoyable. I knew already about blog since I was in 1st year and already made an account but I thought it was not interesting so I leave it. Thanks to our English teacher, Mrs. Christine Luz Z. Boniao for having this opportunity to explore blog and my first time that I had written in my blog.

What Christmas Means to Me?

Christmas is here. Christmas decorations are decorated now in every house. Delicious foods are made. We children are very excited to receive some gifts from our parents or uncles or aunts. So, what Christmas truly means?

For me, Christmas is loving and giving. It’s a joyful time of the year. We bond with our friends and family, so much joy going on. When I think about Christmas, I think of good times. We are sharing and having nice time and loving each other with family and friends. We can get a lot of presents from our ninongs and ninangs. But aside from this, most of all Christmas is all about Jesus. This reminds us the story about Mary who gave birth to baby Jesus in the manger in Bethlehem. Here in the Philippines, every Christmas, many children will be caroling in every houses singing Christmas songs. Every dawn in the morning, we use to go to church to attend mass which we called Simbang Gabi. And every midnight before December 25, we have the Noche Buena with family and friends and eat delicious foods made by our mothers or grandmothers.

Christmas is not only about giving and receiving presents. It’s about Jesus’ birthday. It’s okay for me if I didn’t get any presents. All I want is bond with my whole family and friends and I pray to God that we will have good health and long life. During Christmas, no matter how poor or rich you are, even if we didn’t get any presents or we can’t eat delicious foods, the important thing is, we should smile and be happy with our love ones and enjoy together celebrating Jesus’ birthday. Even though we can’t experience the white Christmas, we still enjoy our Christmas here in our country.

Thank You M'am (Reaction Paper)

Thank You Ma’am is an American story written by Langston Hughes which talks about a boy who wanted to buy a blue suede shoes but he has no money, he tried to snatch a purse from a woman. Not lucky for him, he got caught but instead to punish him, the woman helped the boy. She fed the boy and gave some money to buy shoes. She even let the boy free. The woman represents how kind and caring she was.

In the deconstruction of Thank You Ma’am, the author opposes the things that the woman did for the boy. For me, I think this work was a bad choice for me to read because we people are different. It depends to someone if he/she will punish the child or not. But it is a child so we should not punish it because it is bad to punish or abuse a child. If a child did wrong, just told him/her what is right or wrong? Advise him/her not to do such things like that because it is an evil thing. It can be scolded but in a calm manner. We can treat them as our child. The more we treat them kindly, the more they love us. If we punish them or scolded them badly, the more they do evil things.

I don’t like the reading because like I mention earlier, we people are different. God makes us so special, He gave life and place to live but He didn’t make us equally. We have different traits and minds. I respect what the author wrote in the deconstruction of Thank You Ma’am. Yes, all he/she wrote are all correct. There is a responsibility that those who have done wrong will be punished. But if it a child to be punished, it is not right. It is a child abuse. To be punished is the way so that you can move on or change the bad things you have done but it is not always right especially if it is a child.

In the reading, I surprised when the author said “

There are many faulty choices of judgments made in this comment, mainly because the outcome of the situation would almost never happen in the real world”. Focus on the “...Almost never happen in the real world”, yes, it is true but there are some like some celebrities. They have charity works so that they can help to other people especially to children. Some rich people who are caring and kind also do like that. For me, it is not “almost” because many are so kind and caring. I’m just delighted when the author have this saying “as complicated as life is, there will not always be someone for you to lean and depend on”. It is true because we should not always be dependent. We should live and do our very own. We should be independent especially when you’re growing up, going to college and have own family. We should not always depend on our parents or friends.

I can relate this in my own life. When I was a kid, I usually bought lollipops in the store but my parents would disagree because it will destroy my teeth. I wanted to buy those sweet lollipops so I got money on the purse of my mother. But I got caught by my father and instead to scold me, he just advises me not to do that. He said to put back the moneys and he will buy for me. I do what my father said and went with him to the store. But I learned a new lesson about what I have done wrong.

Things To Change

We lived in a small world with nature around us. It’s like living in a peaceful world. But, as time goes by, there are many changes that happened. Bad things and influences made by people. We are the only living creatures who can make changes in the world.

I’m just a simple student and I have many goals to make and things to change in myself. I want to change some of my traits and habits. Just what my parents said that I was so lazy. And I admit that I’m so lazy sometimes. I was always scolded by my mother for not doing home chores like cleaning my room and washing my clothes. So, I realized that I will avoid being lazy so that I will not be scolded anymore and I will do my home chores during my free days. Aside from this, I am so lazy to study. I always play my computer and watch television. And because of this, I have low grades. This encourages me to study harder and to limit playing my computer and watching television too.

There are also many things to change in our society. I want to change how we people treat each other, the way we respect and treat each other. And also, I want to change the bonding because for me, it’s not enough. We should be cooperate and be friendly to every one of us.

For the nation, if I have a chance to become a president, first, I want to change the government. I want to change some rules and laws we have. I noticed that some laws are similar to other countries. I heard those in some news and for me, there is no originality at all. If the countries have their own rules and laws, we should have in our country our own rules and laws. It’s not bad to have similar laws to other countries but not at all. For instance is for not hurting the children. It’s a law from other countries but for me, it’s not good because how will the parents discipline their children? Many children today are stubborn and unrespectful especially teenagers. It’s okay to hurt your children to discipline them but not too much. If I have a chance, I will disagree with that law. I will make rules which make our nation free and peaceful.

Lastly, for our world, I want to change how other countries treated to other countries. We all know that we want world peace. We should respect their culture and their laws. Another thing I want to change is the songs made by anti-Christ artists. I want to change the music from hard rock, bad songs into good pop, mellow, solemn and Christian songs. Many artists today make songs which are not right to hear and about how they hate our Savior. That is not so good.

There are really many things to change in this world. Me, I’m just a simple student and I don’t know how to achieve these changes I want. In order to achieve those goals, I will study harder and try my best to achieve these goals. I want to help others who make those goals. And I will not forget to pray to God so that He can help me to achieve those goals.

My Teacher, My Hero

All of us, since we are little kids have our favorite superheroes like Superman, Spiderman, wonder woman and others. We all know that heroes save our lives. With the help of their superpowers, they can protect us away from those bandits. They can fly and run very fast. But not all heroes have superpowers. We, normal people can also be heroes and even I can also be a hero. There’s a selection in a book and I learned a message that it does not mean that a hero should have superpowers. What is important is you can help and save other people by being kind and helpful.

I have three main heroes in my life. First is our Almighty God, second is my parents and lastly, my teachers. A teacher is a hero to me because they teach us to have more knowledge. We consider our school as the second home and our teachers as our second parents. They teach us also good manners and right conduct. Like a hero, a teacher is smart, kind, brave, friendly, responsible, preserving, patient and humble. I like a teacher who has all those qualities because this makes me encourage to study more and listen during discussions. It makes me feel close and comfortable with them. I have an experience with a teacher in MSEP when I was in elementary. She is also my aunt. She’s a little bit strict but she has all those qualities (for me). She teaches very well and do all of her best. Once I said to her that I didn’t understand the lesson because I was absent and then she said, “Come to my house this afternoon.” I went to her house and she taught me the lesson that I missed. I was so happy because I understood well and she was so happy too. She said to me that she doesn’t want her students to get behind in her lesson. She wants that all her students understood her lessons. And I realized that my teacher is a good aunt, good mother of her three daughters and a very good teacher. My teacher in Math in high school also inspired me to study my lessons everyday and my teacher in TLE touches my life most. I learned from him that ALWAYS SMILE and never give up. If you are always serious most of the time will easily get old.

Teachers are very important in our society. They do their best to teach us very well with all their knowledge. We should also love our teachers because they treat us as their children. We should respect and obey them just like we did to our family.
